Any questions, please email the team at: dublinsocialinnovation@startupweekend.org

About Techstars Startup Weekend: Techstars Startup Weekends are 54-hour events designed to provide superior experiential education for technical and non-technical entrepreneurs. Beginning with Friday night pitches and continuing through brainstorming, business plan development, and basic prototype creation, Techstars Startup Weekends culminate in Sunday night demos and presentations. Participants create working startups during the event and are able to collaborate with like-minded individuals outside of their daily networks. All teams hear talks by industry leaders and receive valuable feedback from local entrepreneurs. The weekend is centered around action, innovation, and education. Whether you are looking for feedback on an idea, a co-founder, specific skill sets, or a team to help you execute, Techstars Startup Weekends are the perfect environment in which to test your idea and take the first steps towards launching your own startup.

Refund Policy: No refunds will be granted within 7 days of the event if food and drink have already been ordered. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

Terms of Participation Agreement: It is our job to provide you with an incredible networking and learning opportunity. Our intention is that you meet some amazing people that you might actually start a company with, build relationships with coaches, and learn from your peers. The event is intended to be a collaborative forum for sharing, learning, building, and having fun. As such, by registering as a participant, you acknowledge that any ideas shared by you or anyone else over the course of the event are contributions to the overall experience and community. If you as a participant are worried about someone stealing your ideas, please reconsider your participation in the event itself or simply refrain from sharing specifics about your idea.
As a member of your startup community, you agree to be inclusive of any and all people and their ideas. You agree to act professionally, treat everyone with respect, and treat the event facilities with proper care. You agree that you are responsible for any accidents or damages that you cause. High Potential Start-Up Business Simulation Competition
This is a Dublin StartUp Week event

Using the business simulation platform SimVenture Evolution, participants are challenged to set up and grow a bicycle manufacturing company and develop into a High Potential Start-Up ( as per the Enterprise Ireland definition - A HPSU can be defined as a company that is internationally focused and has the potential to employ at least 10 persons within 3 years of starting and to generate revenues of at least €1million). Starting at Y1Q1 and managing the business until Y3Q2 (3.5 years).
The challenge includes developing the best sustainable business and this includes company valuation, sales value, profitability, and efficiency.

This event starts with an introductory workshop at 10 am and then moves online, both individuals or groups are welcome to enter. Leaderboards will operate, rewinds/restarts will be available. Prizes will be confirmed.
This is an excellent applied-learning opportunity for developing entrepreneurial management skills and also to better understand the emotional rollercoaster of developing a High Potential Start-Up. In recognition of completing/achieving HPSU status certificates will be awarded. (a nice addition to any CV)

Financial Health Warning - The value of your business may rise or fall depending on the decisions you make. Beware you may also experience an insolvency and be shut down by the Bank. No personal guarantees involved so recovery will be possible by using some of the available rewinds/restarts.

Validating your StartUp Idea - The Detective approach to Entrepreneurship
This is a Dublin Startup Week Event ( times are indicative and will be confirmed)
An introductory workshop to explain the functionality of SimVenture Validate and free access to the online platform for the Dublin Start-Up Week.

As an on-line resource, Validate offers a ‘block by block’ structured approach to learning. Working much like a detective on their own business idea, users build a portfolio of information that identifies gaps and assumptions that have to be filled and proven. Whilst Validate is easy to start, the questions (which are all carefully structured around the segments within the Business Model Canvas) become increasingly challenging and importantly, users quickly discover what they don’t know.

By being asked the right questions, completing market research, seeking expert advice and critically, getting out of the building, users are able to properly validate their own business idea.
This is an excellent applied-learning opportunity to validate a startup you have already been working on or an entrepreneurial idea you have and would like to put some structure to it. Your work will create a high impact pitch deck/presentation that you will be able to keep and share and use as part of a business plan. Please check out the portfolio demo example here.

SimVenture Validate helps you capture everything in one digital space. Start with the #Idea #generate #assumptions #marketresearch #test #validate #increase #success rates. Also generates #pitchdeck #cashflow

Startup Week Base Camp Workshop - Aliens and Astronauts: a Diversity Training Game
Limited Capacity seats available

The Format: Aliens and Astronauts is an interactive and experiential learning activity designed to teach participants how to navigate multi-cultural environments in a respectful and understanding way.

How do I navigate an increasingly diverse environment or office space?
How do I communicate well with people of different cultures and customs?
How do I turn diversity into a strength?

Diversity is not simple:
Diversity, inclusion and cultural differences are not always easy topics to broach. Often, teachers lack the proper tools to trigger productive discussions about diversity. Tangible results with long-term positive impact are hard to come by.

Aliens and Astronauts was created to solve this. The simple and fun leaning activity allows participants to experience the merits of diversity for themselves, so that the lessons learned live on long after the classroom session as a useful reference framework.

An Activity unlike any other"
Panic onboard the spaceship! A meteorite has struck and the damage is devastating. Astronauts must split into teams to gather repair parts. However, these parts must be obtained from the Aliens, an intergalactic race equipped with advanced technology. The Astronauts must get to know the different customs, cultures and habits of the Aliens. Only in this way will they be able to treat the Aliens with the needed respect in order to convince them to help fix the spaceship in time. This interactive activity consists of 3 parts. 1) Roles & Instructions 2) Game rounds 3) Questions and debrief.

Why do we need to integrate Mindfulness and Compassion to the way we work or the business culture?
About this Event
Facing day-to-day challenges in life and being an innovative entrepreneur might be tough. We might deal not only with external circumstances but also with our inner state of mind, our thinking not always healthy habits and difficult feelings and emotions.

If in addition we tend to be impulsive in our reactions, we can find ourselves experiencing the symptoms of burnout and anxiety.

In this meeting we will explore how inviting Mindfulness and Compassion can help us to develop our self-awareness and improve self-resilience. We will also have a taste of few short Mindfulness and Compassion practices.

You test your code - why aren't you rigorously testing with customers?"
What we'll doIntroduction to Design Sprint /Validation Sprint/Innovation Sprints
Part of (the amazing) Dublin Start-up Weekend

It's easy to fall in love with your idea.
It's harder to solve actual problems.
And here's the thing, nobody cares about your big idea - at least, not until it solves an actual problem for them.

Learn how running a design sprint on your idea can not only save you valuable time and money but also accelerate your idea, giving you the validation and roadmap you need to move ahead with your dream and fall in love again - with the problem - not the idea.

Who's this for?
1) People in the non-profit, gov and for profit space.
2) Idea, start-up and iteration phases
3) Suitable for all ages and experience. Non-technical, no jargon - just a solid intro to what we know works.

Design refers to the development of your idea - not related to graphic design.

Space sponsored by (the amazing also) Digital Hub!

The Ladder is the world's 2nd largest Design Sprint group, with over 26 facilitators trained and over 30 sprints completed in the past year alone for non-profits, social enterprises and commercial organisations

Human-Centered Innovation For Entrepreneurs
Description
With startup failure rates of up to 90%, it is clear that current approaches to growing new ventures are not delivering sufficient returns. While passion, rigor and talent are essential traits of entrepreneurs, the most important success factor is the identification of a real problem and the creativity and adaptability to navigate it towards success. This workshop introduces a critical component often missing from a founder’s toolkit - Human-Centered design. In recent years there has been a growing number of global design-led success stories such as AirBnB, Intercom, Pinterest and Lynda.com, and research demonstrates that a design mindset shares many similarities with that of the most successful entrepreneurs in the world.

In this fast-paced workshop developed by Actionable Innovation, budding entrepreneurs will get to reassess an existing idea through a design lens. During the workshop, participants will learn tools and techniques to identify compelling customer needs, re-evaluate and redefine their challenge, creatively explore new opportunities and create experiments that validate and de-risk potential offerings.

StartAbility
Interested in starting your own business but not sure what the first steps are? Then this event is for you!

About this Event

StartAbility is an event for people with disabilities who are interested in entrepreneurship. It is organised by waytoB Ltd. and a group of volunteers, as part of Startup Week Dublin.

Last year, we aimed to inspire our StartAbility attendees to start their own business. We had an incredible lineup of speakers, such as Adam Harris (AsIAm) and Ailbhe Keane (Izzy Wheels), sharing the positives and negatives of becoming an entrepreneur in Ireland.

This year, we want to help you get the skillset to take your first steps. We've partnered up with the great Jacques Vermaak (co-founder & facilitator @ The Ladder), who will deliver a fun and interactive workshop to give you the tools to get started.

The Lightning Decision Jam is a 1-hour interactive workshop to help you innovate. By making decisions faster and identifying crucial areas that need solutions you can keep moving. The LDJ is built on the core principles of the Design Sprint and works great for any challenge that requires a group of people to make decisions, solve problems or discuss challenges.

David Kerr (Microsoft Ireland) will open the event and share his story as an entrepreneur and accessibility advocate. David has run Start-Ups during the Cloud boom, and worked extensively with the Public and Private sectors. His true calling though lies in working with Accessibility, as the acting Accessibility Champ for the Microsoft disAbility ERG and Board Member for the Irish Chapter of the World Health Innovation Summit (#WHIS) – delivering the UN Strategic Development Goals and revolutionizing Health and Social Care on a global level.

There will be an opportunity for networking at the beginning of the event. Finger food and drinks will be kindly provided by The Digital Hub, who is also our venue partner. The venue is accessible and free parking is available for the duration of the event.

If you have any questions or prefer to secure your ticket over the phone, please contact Talita Holzer on 83 874 9522

We hope to see you there!

Techstars Founder Story (Oathello)
Hear from Jennifer Hourihane, all about her journey building Oathello.

About Oathello
Oathello was set up in 2016, to eliminate some of the ancient relics of the legal system that were holding back the movement of money, with an overarching focus on paperwork.

We started with notary services as the most complex and tricky of all paper events, and worked our way along the chain to cover all forms of financial and legal paperwork from the simplest of forms to the most complex of deeds.

Since 2016 Oathello has worked closely with the law and the financial industry on the value chain of paperwork to write and build technology that truly removes friction from the completion of these documents and the things they cover, be it a mortgage, a complex investment or a simple application for credit.
The result is unique technology that empowers financial start-ups and organisations to capture 100% of the paperwork connected to the movement of money.
We are empowering individuals and companies to move paperwork as fast as money.
Write to api@oathello.com for more.

Startup Snug: A private pitch with some of Ireland's top VCs
Startup Week Dublin takes place on the 21st to the 25th of October.

This year, Beachhut PR is doing what it does best - connecting the startup community. We want to introduce startups to some of Ireland's leading investors over a pint in a snug.

So far we have ACT VC, Frontline Ventures, Techstars and amazing independent advisors on board.

You get 15/20 minutes to tell them about your company or ask them for advice - it's up to you, just use your time wisely.

This is the first of it's kind event and as places are limited for Startup Snug, we require startups to fill out the following questions to allocate startups for our investors and advisors to chat to.

This event will take place late afternoons of Startup Week. Exact time of your slot and the city centre pub will be sent to you if you are successful.

Pints are on Beachhut!

Please fill out this application form to match you with a VC: https://forms.gle/i5AfZ7fJG8xz42SJ9
